Morecambe & Wise Suits
The Ed Sullivan Show

These suits were worn by British comedy legends Eric Morecambe & Ernie Wise for a 1958 appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show for American television.
The pair wore these suits during a sketch with American singer/actress Michele Lee that involved all three pushing each other off a wall during the singing of ‘Moonlight Becomes You.’
The sketch was featured during the 2018 UK Gold TV mini-series Morecambe and Wise in America, introduced by Jonathan Ross.
Since joining the collection in 2019 these suits have been displayed at Shenstone Village Festival in both 2022 and 2024.
Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise, known as Morecambe & Wise, were an English comic double act working in variety, film, radio and television. They were professional partners from 1941 until Morecambe's untimely death in 1984.
Throughout the 1970s and early 1980s The Morecambe & Wise Show was unmissable viewing, particularly Christmas Specials when a host of well known celebrities would be honoured to appear on the show and suffer ridicule at the pair's hands, none of which was ever malicious.
Over the years the Morecambe & Wise Show produced some of the most memorable moments in British comedy that are still loved today. Some of the best examples of these are making breakfast to the music of The Stripper, Angela Rippon's dance routine, Shirley Bassey's boots, Singing In The Rain and Grieg's Piano Concerto with Andre Previn but, of course, not necessarily in that order.
Eric & Ernie's talents extended beyond pure comedy as both were more than capable singers, dancers and writers. Ernie Wise, also known as the one with the short fat hairy legs, passed away on 21 March 1999 at the age of 73.
