Sophie Ellis-Bextor Rochester Castle Concert Dress

Rochester Castle Concert 2018

Sophie Ellis-Bextor Rochester Castle Concert Dress

This Zara sequined mini-dress was worn on stage by singer/songwriter Sophie Ellis-Bextor on 12th July 2018 when she performed as a support act for Ronan Keating as part of the 25th anniversary Rochester Castle concert series.

The dress was donated by Sophie in September 2024 to an auction in aid of Marie Curie cancer care when it was acquired for this collection.

Daughter of former actress and Blue Peter presenter Janet Ellis, Sophie Ellis-Bextor is an English singer/songwriter who first came to prominence in the late 1990s as lead singer of the Indie rock band Theaudience. Ellis-Bextor went solo in the early 2000s when the group disbanded and she started to achieve success with music influenced by mainstream pop, dance, disco, nu-disco and 1980's electronic music.

Outside her band of loyal fans, Sophie is probably best known for her 2001 hit Murder on The Dancefloor which gave her a resurgence in 2024 when it featured in the movie Saltburn.

Sophie tours extensively and often plays as a guest artist for other bands and appears at festivals as well as headlining her own tours. Prior to the Covid pandemic Sophie would perform in smaller venues and often stayed behind afterwards to meet fans, sign autographs and pose for photographs.

During the pandemic she became known on the internet for her weekly performances live from her kitchen at home together with husband Richard Jones, bassist with the band The Feeling. Sophie currently presents her Kitchen Disco show on BBC Radio 2 and presents a weekly podcast called Spinning Plates as well as continuing to pursue her music career.

Sophie released her eighth studio album entitled Perimenopop in September 2025, following yet another successful tour.
